Thursday, Dec. 7, at 12:10 -- Music School faculty member Peggo Horstmann Hodes presents a Bach's Lunch Lecture entitled “The Birth of the Sun: Winter Solstice Traditions” at Concord Community Music School.
The word solstice comes from the Latin, sol stetit — literally, “sun stands still.” In the Northern hemisphere, the winter sun stands still from Dec. 20-22 and then hinges into the new year with the birth of the sun. At her Bach’s Lunch Lecture, Hodes will explore the origins of solstice revelry, including the Green Man, the Wonder Child, the Lord of Misrule, gift giving, music, masks, and dance.
. . . . . . .
Much more than Bach, the series explores a range of musical topics and genres in informal, free, lunch-hour lectures and concerts the first and second Thursdays of each month, November through June.
Bach's Lunch lectures and concerts are held in the Recital Hall, 23 Wall Street, downtown Concord; they begin at 12:10 and conclude by 12:50 p.m. Bring your lunch - and your friends!
The Bach’s Lunch Series is sponsored by The Timothy and Abigail B. Walker Lecture Fund and The Couch Trusts; TD Wealth Management, NA; Trustee. For more information, call 603-228-1196 or visit www.ccmusicschool.org.
