Eric Klaxton, speaker
Heavily influenced by Ragtime music, it is no surprise the piano is an integral part of the music we call Jazz. In this free Bach's Lunch Lecture, Thursday, May 3, 12:10pm, at Concord Community Music School, Eric Klaxton will investigate the long tradition of jazz pianists -- from Jelly Roll Morton to The Bad Plus -- and their varied approaches to playing in a trio setting.
Eric Klaxton earned his BA in Saxophone Performance at the University of New Hampshire where he had the opportunity to work with many inspiring musicians including Clark Terry, Frank Wess, Terell Stafford, Jimmy Heath, and Stjepko Gut. As a UNH student, he took an interest in composition and studied jazz harmony with Mark Shilanksy, and arranging with Mike Annicchiarico. Klaxton is currently an active member of notable ensembles including: The Soggy Po Boys, Sojoy and OurBigBand. In addition to his work with collective ensembles, he is often writing and arranging original works for various groups of his own. Eric broadly enjoys the arts across the spectrum and continues to seek inspiration from the works of great philosophers, classical composers, modern authors, directors, and visual artists.
