With Dan Faiella

Meets weekly for 6 weeks on Tuesdays from 5-6 pm starting September 24.

Join other guitar and mandolin players for an ensemble specially focused on the techniques and arrangement possibilities of playing traditional folk tunes on fretted instruments. In this ensemble, designed for upper-intermediate to advanced players, we’ll be delving into the traditional fiddle repertoire and learning how to craft a group sound that features the unique sounds of the guitar and mandolin, instruments that often play in a supporting role to other instruments in the genre. Over the course of the six week ensemble, we’ll arrange two or three sets of tunes together and use them as a jumping-off point for a broader conversation involving specific techniques, practical chord theory, and arrangement principles, with the goals of both finding our unique group sound, and helping the individual musician hone their set of tools for taking their skills into an group-playing setting.
