Bach's Lunch Lecture - Hearing History: 100 Years of American Vocal Styles
Thursday, June 01, 2017, 12:10pm - 12:50pm

How do vocal styles reflect their times? In her Bach’s Lunch Lecture on June 1, Concord Community Music School faculty member and voice program chair Hannah Murray explores changing vocal styles across time and place, and invites us to think about how music reflects contemporary social movements, wars, popular culture, and more. Listen to a selection of American songs from the 1900s, and see if you can “hear history” in the voices.

The Bach's Lunch Series is sponsored by the Timothy and Abigail Walker Lecture Fund and the Gertrude Couch Trust; TD Wealth Management, NA; Trustee.

“Musical Migrations” is the theme of this year’s Bach’s Lunch programs, which are an outgrowth of the Music School’s leadership work on the Steering Committee of the Welcoming Concord Initiative. Welcoming Concord began through the statewide efforts of the Endowment for Health’s Immigration Integration Initiative, and is a forum for collective action and shared learning, with the goal of warmly welcoming New Americans into the cultural, economic, and civic life of the region.
